  • Besides sincere & diligent patient care, teaching, research and various administrative responsibilities, I
  • have contributed to the advancement of ophthalmology and patient care especially by:
  • a) I have been Awarded a Project entitled “Comprehensive Management and Health Education for the Prevention of ROP Blindness” for 25,000 US $ by the International Eye Foundation (I.E.F.) U.S.A.
  • b) Awarded the International Medical Scholar’s Programme award (IMSP) by ECFMG-USA, an award given only to 20 faculties from all Medical disciplines, round the world in alternate years. The award was given for superspeciality training in ROP.
  • c) First person to start screening for neonates of AIIMS nursery for ROP (Retinopathy of Prematurity), having launched this programme at AIIMS I have popularised this screening to other Delhi & North Indian Hospitals by number of lectures at important fora. This screening detects treatable ROP disease and has saved large number of infants who would have otherwise become blind since birth.
  • d) Was first to describe a new technique for removing pigments from the anterior surface of IOL called YAG Sweeping.
  • e) Was the first in the world literature to describe the technique of Iridolenticular Synichiolysis by YAG laser.
  • f) I was the Coordinator for a WHO-Ministry of Health project to disseminate the knowledge regarding ROP. Under this scheme we are organising workshops of Paeditrician/Ophthalmologist combination all over India, which would actually benefit the masses.
  • g) Started a multispeciality Retinoblastoma clinic which collaborates the Radiotherapist, Paediatric Oncologist with Ophthalmologist. This has benefited the patients immensely as joint multispeciality check-ups are hastened and decision making for therapy is swift.
  • h) I have prepared a manual to guide the District Ophthalmologist in screening & management of Glaucoma under the agies of Ministry of Health.
  • i) A book on ROP first of its kind is released and got world wide acclaim.
  • j) I initiated the formation of ROP clinic and screening programme at AIIMS, Safdarjang and lady Hardinge Medical college which has helped save the sight of innumerable babies.
